Il y a environ 6 mois, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 41 ans, j\u2019ai eu ma premi\u00e8re mammographie. J\u2019habite sur l'\u00cele du Prince-\u00c9douard (IPE) et j\u2019avais entendu parler du Programme provincial de d\u00e9pistage du cancer du sein disponible \u00e0 toute femme ayant plus de 40 ans, sans devoir \u00eatre r\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9e par un m\u00e9decin ou un infirmier praticien. Donc j\u2019ai d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de prendre rendez-vous pour une mammographie, simplement aux fins pr\u00e9ventives \u00e0 propos de ma sant\u00e9, je n\u2019ai pas trouv\u00e9 une bosse.\u2060

\nCette mammographie a men\u00e9 \u00e0 une deuxi\u00e8me qui \u00e9tait plus diagnostique, puis \u00e0 une biopsie, apr\u00e8s laquelle j'ai re\u00e7u un diagnostic auquel personne ne s\u2019attend : cancer du sein du stade 1 \u2013 carcinome canalaire invasif. Mon m\u00e9decin de famille, ainsi que mon chirurgien ont tous les deux effectu\u00e9 des examens du sein apr\u00e8s mon diagnostic et, n\u2019ayant pas senti la bosse, ont confirm\u00e9 que mon cancer n\u2019aurait pu \u00eatre trouv\u00e9 que par une mammographie. \u2060

\nHeureusement, avec une op\u00e9ration chirurgicale afin d\u2019enlever la tumeur et les ganglions lymphatiques (qui \u00e9taient d\u00e9gag\u00e9s), ainsi que 21 traitements de radioth\u00e9rapie et l'hormonoth\u00e9rapie pendant les prochains 5 \u00e0 10 ans, aujourd\u2019hui je suis sans cancer.\u2060

\nJe suis une survivante parce qu\u2019on a d\u00e9tect\u00e9 t\u00f4t mon cancer et que j\u2019ai eu une mammographie, un rendez-vous dont je serai toujours reconnaissante.\u2060

\nJ\u2019esp\u00e8re qu\u2019un jour toutes les provinces du Canada offriront aux femmes ayant 40 ans et plus un programme de d\u00e9pistage du cancer du sein semblable. Sans le programme de l'IPE et si j\u2019avais eu ma premi\u00e8re mammographie \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 50 ans, mon cancer se serait propag\u00e9 pendant 9 ans de plus et mes traitements, voire leur r\u00e9sultat aurait pu \u00eatre bien diff\u00e9rent.\u2060

\nSoyez la meilleure d\u00e9fenseuse de votre sant\u00e9 en prenant rendez-vous pour une mammographie. Cela pourrait s\u2019av\u00e9rer l\u2019une de vos d\u00e9cisions les plus importantes concernant votre sant\u00e9. Pour moi cette d\u00e9cision a chang\u00e9 ma vie!
